Multiple Sclerosis, or simply MS, is a debilitating disease that effects over 1/1000 Canadians according to the MS Society of Canada. While it is not fully understood, MS is an auto-immune disease that tricks your body’s immune system into attacking the myelin sheaths that coat many of your nerves. The myelin sheaths speed up the communication between cells, and MS disrupts the flow of information from your brain to your body.
The causes of MS are not well understood either, and it can strike anyone at any age but usually is observed between the ages of 15-40. Women are about twice as likely to develop it as men and white people, particularly of Northern European decent, are more susceptible than other ethnicities. MS is not contagious and not directly inheritable, though genetic factors do appear to contribute to the disease.
Thankfully, MS is not fatal and those afflicted with it can expect to live a relatively normal lifespan. However, symptoms can be quite severe and the course of the disease can be unpredictable. Most people with MS enter into a relapse-remission cycle where new symptoms will emerge then relapse, or partially relapse for weeks, months, or even years. For others, the disease follows a steady progression and the majority of those who begin with a relapse-remission cycle will switch to a steady progression in time.
Those with MS can expect to experience a wide range of symptoms that among other things, can affect your ability to work and live a normal life. Muscle stiffness and paralysis – particularly in the legs are common for those with MS. Epilepsy and depression are also associated with the disease. Symptoms can include but are not limited to:
- Partial or complete blindness and pain with eye movements
- Tingling and electric shock sensations
- Slurred speech
- Fatigue and dizziness
- Tremors and an unsteady gait
- Bowel and bladder issues

I was injured in a car accident and sustained a fractured ankle, developing debilitating chronic pain. Joseph was very caring about me and how my case affected my family. He worked tirelessly on my case until we won and my case is now well known in the legal community. Throughout this whole ordeal, the only thing I can be thankful for is that Joseph was my lawyer, his care, compassion and experience made all the difference.
I can’t thank Joseph Campisi enough. I was involved in a serious car accident and I suffered serious orthopaedic injuries which prevent me from ever returning to the job that I had at the time of the accident. Joseph and his team were always accessible, even on evenings or weekends. The settlement far exceeded my expectations and it will provide financial security for me and my family.
I feel fortunate that I was referred to Cesar Carranza. I suffered a spinal cord injury when I fell off a trailer. From the initial meeting when Cesar came to the hospital, he alleviated most of my troubles and I was able to focus on getting better. Cesar and Joseph settled my case quickly, and I felt supported through the whole process, not only by them but also by an awesome medical and rehabilitation team that they assembled.
My father was in a horrible crash and he suffered a severe brain injury as well as serious fractures. Joseph Campisi came highly recommended and he promised us that he would be relentless in representing my father. He kept his promise.
I, and the behalf of my family, especially my daughter, want to say a "BIG THANKS" to you, Mr. Cesar Carranza, the lawyers who were involved in her case and all the Campisi Law team members who put their efforts together to bring the justice for my daughter.
