Written by Campisi Law | Mar 20, 2021 4:00:00 AM

In response to the evolving COVID-19 crisis, the Ontario Government released Order 518/20 under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, declaring a state of emergency for the Province on March 17, 2020.

Emergency measures have included ordering the closure of the following: public gathering places including indoor recreational facilities, libraries, private schools, childcare centres, restaurants (except for take out and delivery), theatres and concert venues. As well, public events of more than 50 people (including outdoor events and communal services in places of worship) are prohibited. These measures are effective until March 31, 2020 unless terminated earlier.

In addition, the Government has suspended the operation of all provisions under any primary or secondary legislation that establishes any limitation period, or any period of time to take procedural steps in a legal or administrative proceeding or intended proceeding, for the duration of the emergency, and retroactive to March 16, 2020.

Generally, the suspension of limitation periods should not adversely impact your lawsuit or hearing. However, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions related to this issue. If there could be significant repercussions, we will contact you directly.

Stay safe and be kind.
